The Role

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will play a key role in the design, development, and implementation of automated production equipment. You will be responsible for developing innovative and reliable mechanical solutions that meet customer requirements, technical specifications, and project objectives.

Working closely with cross-functional teams, you will contribute to the complete machine development process, from concept design and technical calculations through to machine assembly, testing, and final delivery. This role requires strong technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary engineering environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and develop automated production equipment and special-purpose machinery according to customer specifications and project requirements.
• Prepare mechanical concepts, layouts, detailed designs, and engineering drawings to ensure innovative, reliable, and efficient solutions.
• Act as a subject matter expert in mechanical design and collaborate closely with Controls, Software, Purchasing, Fabrication, Applications, and Service teams to ensure seamless system integration.
• Perform technical calculations, design evaluations, and cost assessments to optimise mechanical designs while maintaining quality, performance, and project budget requirements.
• Prepare detailed technical drawings, design documentation, and Bills of Materials (BOM) to support manufacturing, assembly, and project execution.
• Select appropriate mechanical components, materials, and manufacturing processes based on technical and project requirements.
• Ensure that mechanical designs comply with relevant engineering standards, customer specifications, and internal quality requirements.
• Provide technical support during machine assembly, installation, testing, and fine-tuning activities.
• Work closely with the production and engineering teams to troubleshoot mechanical issues and ensure optimal machine performance and timely project delivery.
• Support design reviews, design improvements, and technical problem-solving throughout the project lifecycle.
• Proactively contribute ideas and initiatives to improve design quality, engineering efficiency, and IMA Automation’s overall performance.

Experience & Skills

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• Proven experience in mechanical design, preferably within the automation, machine-building, special-purpose machinery, or industrial equipment industry.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical design principles, machine components, and manufacturing processes.
• Experience using 3D CAD software and relevant engineering design tools.
• Experience in preparing detailed engineering drawings, technical documentation, and Bills of Materials (BOM).
• Familiarity with automated production equipment, machine assembly, and mechanical system integration.
• Ability to perform engineering calculations and evaluate mechanical design solutions.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Good understanding of engineering standards, tolerances, and design-for-manufacturing principles.
• Good command of English, both written and spoken.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
